Murphy expressed eagerness about returning, stating, "It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper... This is one for the fans".
Industry expert and critic for Dead End Follies, Phil Moreau, notes: "What makes Shelby captivating is the tension between his controlling persona and the deep trauma that controls him. This wartime setting is the perfect pressure cooker to finally force a resolution".
